Community Involvement

Making connections in our communities.

At Modis, we give back to the communities we serve and are proud to support a number of deserving organizations to make a positive difference for everyone.

Our employees have helped residents of an assisted living center plant flowers in their garden, have sorted and bagged food for local food banks, have participated in a walk-a-thon to benefit an animal shelter, have helped a local library open a second branch and much more.

Here are just a few of the events and organizations we support.

Denim Day for Breast Cancer
Held the Tuesday after Mother’s Day, we participate in CURE Foundation’s National Denim Day by allowing our employees to wear denim and receive CURE’s ‘pink flower’ ribbon in exchange for a suggested $5 donation.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Ottawa - Brian Smith Memorial Golf Tournament
The Brian Smith Memorial Golf Tournament honors the memory of the late Brian (Smitty) Smith, the popular CTV Ottawa sportscaster, former NHL hockey player and supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa.

We have had the pleasure of being the title sponsor and active committee members of this event for the past 11 years. When we lost Brian, our community lost a great supporter of so many charities. The Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa was special to Smitty because his experiences at the Boys & Girls Club and at camp were important influences on his life.

Smitty's legacy lives on. At the most recent event we exceeded our goal and raised $127,000 (net) for a one-day event. This will allow approximately 150 deserving kids go to Camp Smitty this year. Plus, we reached the $1.4 million (net) level raised in support of Camp Smitty over the last 15 years. In that time, this premier event of Ottawa -- which is always sold out months in advance -- will have touched the lives of over 1,750 deserving campers.

Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Programs, Inc.
Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Programs, Inc. was established in 1988 as part of the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Canada network of local and parent support groups. Candlelighters is a not-for-profit volunteer organization that provides programs and services for young cancer patients being treated in Eastern Ontario and to those they depend on for strength and support.

Candlelighters provides programs and services "exclusively" for children with cancer and their families. Candlelighters' programs and services are aimed at the needs of the entire family, and deal mainly with alleviating both the emotional and financial stress that families of children with cancer deal with on a daily basis. Candlelighters work very closely with professional staff at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in the development of programs and rely on these strong relationships for smooth program delivery.

To help support this worthwhile program, we participate in such events as golf tournaments and the annual curling bonspiel.

United Way
We have been a proud supporter of the United Way since 2005. In addition to holding local fundraising events as a company, our employees contribute their personal time as well.
